Hughes Fowler Carruthers

We pride ourselves on our expertise in dealing with high value family and business assets. Our clients come from different parts of the world, and from varied social positions and backgrounds. We act for entrepreneurs, businessmen and women, professional people, high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals, international families, people in the public eye and members of the landed gentry.

We pride ourselves on our expertise in dealing with high value family and business assets. We are one of the few firms in the country that deals on a day-to-day basis with cases with such assets. Inevitably, where there is wealth of this nature, the assets will be tied up in complex corporate or trust structures, both on and offshore. We are highly experienced in dealing with these structures and have connections with numerous law firms who can provide the best possible specialist advice on tax, corporate or trust law when needed. We are also accustomed to dealing with advisors and family offices, working together towards the best result for the client.

When acting for the weaker financial party, we are very well positioned to investigate, interpret and advise on these structures and how they are treated within matrimonial proceedings.

Most of the partners are members of the International Academy of Family Lawyers, a network of high calibre lawyers around the world which provides excellent connections where advice is required in other jurisdictions.

These cases bring unique problems and the partners of Hughes Fowler Carruthers have been at the forefront in dealing with these problems, having acted in numerous reported cases involving the treatment of high value family trusts and corporate structures including, for example, the cases of Mubarik, Imerman and Charman.

Of course, not all such cases involve the involvement of the court, and we are experts in negotiating and resolving such cases without the need for such intervention. Which route the parties go down to get to an end result will depend on each individual case.
